An Annual 'Lolay'2016

Nyilo a day coinciding with the “Winter SOLSTICE” is an auspicious day celebrated as a new year. The annual ‘Lolay’ festival organized by Folk Heritage Museum under Tarayana Foundation since 2012 on the command of Her Majesty the Queen mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wang chuck is aimed at revitalizing the vanishing tradition

On 2nd January, 2016 groups of children in Thimphu celebrated “lolay”a unique tradition on the eve of Nyilo to commemorate the beginning of an auspicious new year at Royal palace and other places in Thmphu. This was a dying tradition but Folk Heritage Museum is making every effort to revive this dying tradition in Bhutan. The Folk Heritage Museum has always been actively promoting to the one of the most important objective of the nation to preserve and promote culture.
