Store room (Barthog)

The Middle Floor (Barthog) has two rooms which are used for storing agricultural products and other household odds and ends that are not used daily such as wooden boxes, baskets, wine and spirit containers made of bamboo and buffalo horns, butter and cheese containers, the mortar and pestles for crushing chili and other spices, carpentry equipment, traditional stitching equipment and traditional sports items.

The room at the back is used for storing grain, especially red rice. There are two ways to preserve rice, one by storing it in a big wooden container called bham and other by storing it in a huge basket called luep. Since the stored rice is to last for several months, the husk is not removed. This way the rice is protected by its husk from rice weevils.

In this room, one will find the Bhutanese scientific measuring systems, that are classified as, phita and Dre along with the three standard weighing scales sang, Goe and Tirusangchung.
